ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES, INSTRUCTION AND OUTREACH COLLEGE OF ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY
The College of Arts and Architecture is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Instruction and Outreach. This is an academic administrative position requiring a faculty rank of associate professor or higher.
The associate dean position provides visionary and innovative leadership and administration for the college's undergraduate programs and undergraduate student services and coordinates and collaborates with the academic unit heads and faculty, all of the various outreach programs and offerings of the college, including on-line course development, e-learning initiatives and the continued integration of the use of technology in the teaching/learning enterprise. The associate dean reports to the dean as a senior member of the administrative team of the college which functions in a collaborative and integrative manner across the teaching, research and outreach functions of the college.
The person in this position performs the following responsibilities: Provides leadership and advocacy in support of faculty excellence in teaching and advising. Advocates for and supports enhancing teaching and learning through expanded use of technology. Oversees the College Advising Center and the Office of Multicultural Programs. Coordinates undergraduate student recruitment and retention programs with all academic units of the college. Assists in the curricular revisions of the academic majors and programs of the college. Maintains all undergraduate student records and verify graduation requirements. Administers and advances the scholarship programs of the college. Coordinates the Summer Session offerings of the college. Administers and maintains strong relationships, communications and support of the arts discipline faculty located at the other nineteen (19) undergraduate campuses of the university. Serves as liaison with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Student Aid, the Office of the University Registrar. Serves as the college representative to the Administrative Council on Undergraduate Education and the Council on Engagement (Outreach) and maintains a strong working relationship with the University Faculty Senate. Serves on other appropriate University and external committees relating to undergraduate education.
Qualifications: An earned doctorate, terminal degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field of study in the College of Arts and Architecture is required. Candidate must have appropriate academic experience to hold a tenured faculty appointment in one of the college's academic units.
The position calls for creative leadership; a knowledge of current trends in undergraduate higher education, a commitment to advancing undergraduate education and experience in continuing and distance education, including e-learning. The successful candidate should have demonstrated ability in providing leadership to faculty and in working with all levels of university administration. High energy, excellent communication skills, a team spirit and the ability to get things done are essential position requirements.
