Boston Architectural College Provost

The Boston Architectural College seeks an individual committed to advancing innovative design education to become its next Provost. The BAC is the largest and oldest free-standing spatial design college in the United States, offering accredited, practice-based Bachelors and Masters degrees in Architecture and Interior Design, and Bachelors degrees in Landscape Architecture and Design Studies. The BAC also offers a distinctive on-line M.Arch. degree-completion program and numerous Certificates through its Continuing Education program.

Located in the heart of Boston's vibrant Back Bay, the BAC is committed to providing excellence in design education, grounded in practice and accessible to diverse communities. The BAC enrolls over 1100 matriculating students who are taught and advised by over 400 practicing professionals, including lead faculty of about 80 educator/practitioners. Our matriculating students work and are paid in practice in over 300 design firms by day, and attend most of their studios and classes at night, earning credit in both settings through concurrent learning.

The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer of the BAC, overseeing matriculating programs across all disciplines, and faculty and student support services including advising and financial aid. The Provost is a key member of the BAC's leadership team, reporting directly to the President and working collaboratively with the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, who oversees BAC Continuing Education programs.

Candidates should bring: • A minimum of 8-12 years of progressively responsible staff management experience in higher education; • The ability to clearly articulate and implement the distinctive mission and vision of the BAC; • Budget development and management expertise; • A fundamental commitment to rigorous educational quality assurance, data assessment and innovative recognition of practice-based learning outcomes; • An understanding of emerging trends in design education and accreditation; • A strong commitment to providing support services to non-traditional students; • The ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, administrators, practicing professionals who volunteer in support of the BAC's educational mission, and firms within which BAC students work and receive educational credit; • A commitment to community service and outreach, and practice-based research; • A commitment to developing and supporting practicing professionals as excellent teachers and mentors.

The BAC is committed to selecting the Provost from a diverse and interesting pool of candidates. All inquiries, applications, and nominations should be directed in confidence to Rebecca Swartz, Senior Associate, Isaacson Miller, 3705@imsearch.com. Electronic submissions are preferred.
