DIRECTOR OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
The College of Architecture is seeking a full-time faculty member to provide leadership as Director of the School's emerging Landscape Architecture Program. The Program is seeking an energetic individual who wants to lead a growing design/research school in a land grant university.
The College of Architecture has established a collaborative environment between the four design disciplines housed in the College including Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Community and Regional Planning, and Interior Design. The Landscape Architecture Program is now in the third year of the rollout of the five year BLA degree program. We have scheduled our first candidacy visit for the fall of 2008 and look to have our accreditation after our first graduating class in 2011.
The Program seeks to focus on the negotiated territory between the natural environment and the urbanized environment whether that is in the midst of the city, the heart of the rural landscape or in the space between both the rural and urban landscape. Recognizing solutions to this challenge must necessarily involve many disciplines, the Program takes an integrated approach to design education and research. The successful candidate will be well grounded in the theory and practice of landscape architecture nationally or internationally with a focus in one or more areas of concentration such as landscape urbanism, design and public health, restoring and protecting natural systems, and natural resource management.
The appointment is for a tenured or tenure-track position depending upon the qualifications of the selected candidate. Evidence of effective teaching and notable accomplishments in design or design research through either academic or professional modes of inquiry will be considered in this process. Review of applications will begin February 1, 2009 and continue until the position is filled. The appointment is intended to begin no later than fall 2009.
