POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Associate Professor/ Professor and Program Coordinator in Land and Real Estate Development with Endowed Professorship

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning (LAUP) at Texas A&M University, a comprehensive land-grant and research institution, invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level, with expertise in Land and Real Estate Development, starting Fall 2009. Successful applicants should be qualified for tenure at the time of appointment. The candidate selected for this position will serve as Program Coordinator for the Master of Science in Land Development (MSLD) program, and will be the holder of Youngblood Endowed Professorship in Land Development.

Position and Responsibility The Program Coordinator is expected to provide vision, leadership, and administration in support of diverse teaching, research, and outreach programs; work closely with faculty to set program priorities and allocate resources; advocate for the program; cultivate an environment that encourages excellence in teaching and research; promote opportunities for interdisciplinary research; promote the program's relationship within the professional and academic communities; and work with the Department Head and alumni to identify and obtain resources for the program. The successful candidate selected for this position will teach the MSLD core and elective courses in topics involving the program's paradigm of the physical-financial interface in development, including site design and financial modeling and decision support systems; mentor graduate students and serve on graduate committees.

Qualifications Candidates must have a degree in land and real estate development or a related field, including landscape architecture or urban planning. A Ph.D. or equivalent with a record of scholarly research and publications is required. Applicants with interdisciplinary education encompassing both the physical and financial aspects of development are preferred. The Department is particularly interested in candidates who have direct experience in the real estate development industry. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Department and Program The Master of Science in Land Development (MSLD), where design meets business, is an entrepreneurship-oriented program focused on financially feasible, environmentally sensible, socially responsible, and politically acceptable land & real estate development.

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning contains 35 full-time faculty members and offers the following six degrees: the Bachelor of Urban and Regional Science, the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, the Master of Landscape Architecture, the Master in Urban Planning, the Master of Science in Land Development, and the Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Science. The department has strong interdisciplinary ties to the world-renowned Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center, the Texas Transportation Institute, the Heritage Conservation Center, and other centers and certificate programs in related fields within the College of Architecture.
