School of Landscape Architecture Vacancies

The School of Landscape Architecture at Lincoln University is growing, and has academic positions and PhD scholarships available for 2009. Join us and grow your career.

Landscape Architecture in New Zealand has its roots at Lincoln University. From our beginnings in 1969 as the first professional landscape programme in New Zealand, we now have six permanent academic staff and a talented pool of adjunct staff teaching Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees to around 140 students. Most of New Zealand's major Landscape Architectural firms were established by Lincoln graduates giving it an unparalleled alumni base that has now spread across the globe. The programme is highly regarded for its research internationally and combined with planning has received the top research ranking among New Zealand's design programmes. Lincoln offers degrees that integrate theory and design practice, educating well rounded and sought after graduates. We publish a referred journal (Landscape Review), and offer particular expertise in design critique, culture and design, urban ecology, and landscape planning. We offer New Zealand's only design courses on Maori Landscape, Landscape Ecology and Structure Planning. In May 2009 the School of Landscape Architecture will move into its new state of the art building and in November it will celebrate its 40th Anniversary (see http://hdl.handle.net/10182/675 ).

Lecturer(X 2) (08/281) The School of Architecture is looking for two additional academic staff to expand its teaching and research capabilities. The successful applicant(s) will need to have a higher professional degree in landscape architecture or an allied discipline, and an active interest in at least one of the following areas: urban design and planning, landscape planning/spatial modelling/structure planning, or landscape sustainability, with a willingness to develop their skills further in these areas. The appointee(s) will be required to teach into studio classes at all levels and to contribute to and develop theory and practice papers around these topics. These are research as well as teaching positions and the appointees will be expected to actively contribute to the School's research output and to help develop its expertise in these and other relevant areas both locally and internationally.

If you are looking for a top-ranked Landscape Architectural programme, with international standing, then Lincoln University and one of these two PhD positions may well suit you!

PhD Teaching Assistant (08/191) This is your opportunity to participate in innovative research in New Zealand's largest PhD programme in Landscape Architecture and to develop your teaching skills. In exchange for ten hours per week, you will be paid a generous allowance, your PhD fees will be paid plus there is the opportunity to renew for up to three years.

PhD Scholarship in Landscape Planning This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to step up in an academic or professional career while contributing to the shape of the New Zealand's landscape. A three year PhD scholarship is available now on Planning Rural Landscape Change, sponsored by Otago Regional Council (ORC). A full living allowance and PhD fees will be paid, as well as generous provision for research expenses. You will be based at Lincoln University but will work closely with ORC planners, with a focus upon developing principles for determining acceptable landscape change.
