TENURE-TRACK POSITION AT THE COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENT AND DESIGN: The College of Environment and Design (CED) at the University of Georgia is seeking applications for a tenure-track position in landscape architecture. The CED promotes excellence in environmental design, while working across disciplines to further teaching excellence and relevant scholarship in landscape architecture and related fields. Research, teaching and service focused on design and planning within a rapidly changing world, critical regionalism, cultural components of the built and natural environment, and promoting environmental, social and economic stability are College wide initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in civic participatory engagement in landscape architectural design process, interest and background in the social aspects of landscape architecture and urban design, and the capability to integrate the use of current digital research processes and communication in design studio teaching and research. The demonstrable use of GIS in community design and as an information system to understand and analyze community and environmental data is a plus.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A terminal academic degree in landscape architecture, architecture or related discipline is required. This includes the MLA, M.Arch, or PhD in landscape architecture, architecture, city and regional planning or other related professional degrees.

Candidates must demonstrate potential for developing a body of fundable research leading to scholarship and/or creative works. Applicants need to have the ability to teach in a studio setting, as well as in lecture and seminar classes. Interest and experience in service-learning and community outreach is ideal. Additionally, as the CED actively promotes a diverse community, all applicants must be comfortable working in a multi-faceted academic environment.

THE COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENT AND DESIGN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA: The College of Environment and Design houses top rated programs in landscape architecture (BLA and MLA) and a Master in Historic Preservation (MHP), and an Environmental Ethics Certificate Program. In addition, a new Master in Environmental Planning and Design (MEPD) will start in the Fall of 2009. There is a close connection between all the programs. While the new faculty position will primarily be situated in landscape architecture, teaching and research collaborative efforts between the units within the CED are encouraged. All faculty are involved with teaching, research and service.

The University of Georgia is a top research institution, with numerous colleges and departments engaged in high level scholarship and creative activity. Faculty in the College of Environment and Design are involved with research and teaching activities with faculty from the Eugene Odum School of Ecology, the School of Public Health, The Department of Theater and Film Studies, College of Education, School of Social Work, and multiple other units. The CED has an established international service-learning program which in past years has operated in Thailand, Ghana, Croatia and Costa Rica. A study abroad program is offered in Cortona, Italy in conjunction with the School of Art, and hands on travel field courses are offered on diverse topics of faculty and student interest. As a land grant University, service oriented research and teaching projects both locally and internationally are important activities in the College.

Located in the piedmont landscape of Northeast Georgia, Athens is conveniently situated to take advantage of research, teaching and service opportunities in the diverse ecological and urban environments in the State. Eco-systems range from the Coastal Plain in South Georgia, to the mountain regions in the North. The Coast of Georgia and the Coastal Islands offer unique cultural and environmental study opportunities. Urban centers display the spectrum of urban design and growth models, from the rapidly expanding Atlanta metropolitan region, to well preserved historic cities such as Savannah and Macon.
