DEPARTMENT OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
The Department of Landscape Architecture, University of Oregon, is seeking applications for 2 full-time (9 month), tenure track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR positions, to begin Fall 2010. Applicants should be qualified to conduct research and/or a creative practice and teach planning and design studios as well as non-studio subject area courses related to the design and making of sustainable, beautiful landscapes. Teaching and/or professional experience is desirable; a love of learning and designing is essential. The right person for both positions will be thoughtful and personally skillful, able to teach through his/her own work as well as through classes and critiques. The successful candidates will enjoy broad environmental interests and be able to sustain a focused research and/or creative practice on significant, emerging areas within Landscape Architecture.
Candidates should be proficient at nurturing creative, integrative site analysis and design exploration and at developing skills in students, especially in studio settings. Faculty members are expected to possess strong teaching skills and engage in rigorous scholarship and/or creative practice. We seek individuals who will complement existing areas of teaching and research in the department, school and university. The department is interested in individuals who have clear ideas and experience with new landscape design and production methods that will guide the next generation of landscape architects. These may involve innovative responses to difficult challenges in creating healthier communities and environments. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop and disseminate scholarship to a broad audience.
Applicants for Position 1 will emphasize the art and craft of making sustainable and beautiful landscapes and also demonstrate potential to take a leadership role in developing and instructing courses in landscape technologies and construction. The department is interested in individuals who have clear ideas and experience with new landscape construction methods and materials that will guide the next generation of landscape architects.
Applicants for Position 2 will emphasize the design and theory of making sustainable and beautiful landscapes and also have clear ideas and experiences with the type of new skills, insights and understandings that will help guide the next generation of landscape architects.
Qualifications:
1. A terminal degree in landscape architecture or a closely related field is required.
2. Demonstrated potential to engage in integrative, scholarly work and disseminate the results is required.
3. Significant professional experience in landscape planning and design is strongly desired.
4. Previous teaching experience is strongly desired.
5. Licensure and/or a Ph.D. are preferred.
Special Qualifications for Position 1:
1. Experience related to the innovative design, construction and documentation of projects at the site scale is strongly desired.
2. Expertise in sciences related to landscape function, such as engineering, hydrology, geology, geomorphology, or ecological restoration is desired.
Special Qualifications for Position 2:
1. Experience related to theories, processes and communication of sustainable landscape design is strongly desired.

1. A C.V. or resume and a narrative description of your background, interests, and qualifications for either or both of the positions. Include a discussion of your views (philosophical and practical) about teaching and your immediate and long-range plans for research and/or creative practice.
2. A modest portfolio of representative products of your research and creative work, including professional projects and/or publications.
3. Examples of classes that you are qualified to teach, including information about classes that you have taught or helped to teach. Include previous course materials if available.
